MitaKuye Oyasin!
All things of this world being right and true, the signs being right, and life coming full circle,
I went today to make copies of my words that will follow. Copies for any of you here that may want one. And on
the way I saw two hawks in the sky playing gleefully on the soft warm currents of air. Screeching and playing I was reminded
by Doug... by this sign - for they played and made noise like he and I had for so many, many years. Then suddenly and without
any warning at all, one parted from the other, leaving just the single hawk riding the current of air. There was no grief
there, but a gentle touch of Knowing for me that one day soon we will play again in the skies.
Then as I left the place where I made the copies, a single drop of rain fell upon the original
I had printed. Slowly slipping down the page like a single tear. Doug was telling me Again that he wanted no tears at this
occasion. But of course there will be some. This is natural. This is a Good day. All things come full circle and are in this
way satisfied, completed, and renewed.
This life is just a joyous ride that we must Cherish, waiting for the next. This is a lesson for ALL of us that at any
moment in life Everything can change in a heartbeat. That we Must learn to Love each other as Much as possible while we are
here. To take the moment NOW to say I Love You, for we never know, the moment passes from us so quickly and the tragedy is
in the things felt but left unsaid. Remember this lesson when you go home today and tell ALL of your Loved ones how you feel
about them and do not let the moment pass! There is Nothing in this life Impossible. With the Great Spirit within you, you
can change Everything around to its opposite. The Impossible suddenly becomes Marvelously Possible. The past is just a dream.
The future, guarenteed to No one. This leaves ONLY Now. And now is the moment in which we live. It is for us to make our Every
now as good as possible, and be the best versions of ourselves we can be!
Doug's Memorial Service
We are ALL gathered here this day to mourn the loss of our precious Friend Doug
Cook, (Red Wolf) But it is for me to say that Instead- Let us gather this day in Celebration of his life and the man he was
& IS to ALL of us! He wanted it this way and so it shall be!
What a man has done, built, or accomplished in his life is Not the measure of the man,
but what he leaves behind in the hearts and minds of those who knew and Loved him.
So from this moment on, I will not speak of him in the past tense. For how can someone
so deep in our hearts be lost or gone from us? Only the body passes from this life while the soul goes on Forever. Not just
in our hearts and minds in Loving memory; but on to the Great Spirit who calls us home.
I am Priveledged and Honoured to be able to say that Doug is my Best Friend from
our childhood as young men together to the presnet day and Forever after. When I first met Doug he was the quote Troubled
young man, new to my high school, with thick glasses that were taped together in the center. He was the outcast, and I was
the cool guy playing guitar in the breezeway, the smoking area at school. I speak of this now because it was always Doug
who seemd to look up to me. I thank the Great Spirit that before he left this world I had the opportunity to tell Doug that
it was I who looked up to HIM!
Doug IS my Best and longest known friend, My Brother, Blood Brother, Uncle to
my Children, my Confidant, Sidekick, Straightman, my Father Confessor, my Constant Companion. Never seeming to think of himself,
but always me first. I was selfish with his wonderful giving soul!!!
Carl asked me to speak of my being a Shaman in my tribe. I was named Black
Horse when I lived for a time on the Reservation. But, they would never tell me why. It was nearly twenty years later when
I met Wallace Black Elk from the Soiux Nation who told me the meaning of my name. Black for night, or that which is hidden.
Horse is for strong. So the name means "Strong Teller Of Hidden Truths." I am Honoured by the name and strive to live up to
it day by day. It is a hard road. But it was I who gave Doug his Indian name; Red Wolf, in a very Sacred Ceremony nearly thirty
years ago. And now it comes to the time when I will say his name and tell it's meaning. Red is for Heart, and Wolf is for
Tenacious. So, the meaning of Red Wolf's name is "Forever Loving Heart." In Every way this IS Doug!!! Who and what he IS and
Always will be. And once again I must Thank The Great Spirit for the opportunity to have told Red Wolf the meaning of his
name before he left this world. I gave Doug this name with the Greatest Love and Admiration. I gave him this name in Tribute.
And Doug Lived his name In Tribute to ALL those who knew him!!!

Red Wolf was Loved by All who knew him! For his
Kind and Thoughtful Heart, his Wonderful sense of humour, and his Selfless incredible Giving nature. His ability
to laugh at himself, and give so much Happiness to Everyone he knew. He had the innate desire to make others feel good
about themsleves and therefore Inspire them So Greatly! Myself included!
He was Loved not only by those in his immediate orbit but those
who knew him from Far and Near. From All over the country and even extending to England, Poland, France, and even as
far away as Austrialia!!! He was a citizen of the World and will be sorely Missed but NEVER forgotten. Can a man
have a Greater legacy than to be So Loved by the whole world?
Those who Loved him in this way but could Not make it
because of time, jobs, or distance. I will name but a few.
